DULUTH COMMUNITY CENTER
Duluth, GA
The City of Duluth’s Parks and Recreation Department worked in partnership with HFR to design and oversee the construction of a new community center at W.P. Jones Park – a 20 acre site just south of the City. Erected on the site of an old railroad depot building that had been relocated, HFR honored the history of the site and former structure to influence the new design. The community center interior features a craftsman style heavy timber-framed interior and vaulted ceilings with clerestory windows to introduce natural daylighting. A large natural stone fireplace helps reflect the organic surroundings of the site. The center is a home away from home for many Duluth residents as it hosts a variety of exciting activities and is often bustling with fun, friendship, community involvement, and wellness.
